Game recap – Shakopee and Lakeville South

Apple Valley’s two games this week couldn’t have been more different. They started with an exciting overtime win at Shakopee. Jake DeWall led the way with a hat trick and Jacob Savard added two more in a tightly fought, back-and-forth affair. Tyler Kim and Adam Johnson steered a stout defense as Sam Kotsonas had another solid game in goal. As time wound down in the fourth, Alex Johnson put in the tying goal to send the game to overtime. As the teams faced off for the extra session, Kevin Cranmer won the all-important face off, sent the ball to Savard who flipped it to Tristen Plagge, who threw it home for the game winner. An exciting end indeed.

Unfortunately, Thursday’s game at Lakeville South did not produce the same fireworks. Jake DeWall again notched a hat trick with four other teammates chipping in a goal each, but turnovers and an inability to capitalize on man-up opportunities doomed the Eagles in an 11-7 loss. Sam Kotsonas again stood tall, but the Cougars proved too much in handing the Eagles their first loss of the season.

AV Varsity game recap vs Minneapolis

It wasn’t the prettiest of games, but the Apple Valley Boys Varsity lacrosse team came away with a 12-7 win over Minneapolis on Saturday. A sluggish first quarter found the boys down 1-0, but a second quarter sprint saw them notch 4 quick goals in about a two minute span. Midfielder Kevin Cranmer led the way with a hat trick and Alex Johnson and Luke Martinson scored their first goals of the season. Sam Kotsonas was solid in goal, saving 9 of 16 shots. Both JV and Varsity teams try to keep their winning ways going as they open their conference schedule on the road against Shakopee on Tuesday, April 19th.
